Professionally rebuilt four-spindle ring twister for sampling, product development and small-scale yarn production. Modern controls, classic Italian engineering, and ready for its next working home.
For the past eight years, this little twister has been a constant part of Garthenor Organic.
Known around the mill as ‘Chubby’, after Chubby Checker and The Twist, it was the first textile machine we bought when Garthenor was still operating from the farm. In those days, our yarn was spun elsewhere and returned to us as singles, ready to be twisted. Chubby was responsible for turning those singles into finished yarn, and over the years it has twisted literally tonnes of wool.
When we moved into our own spinning mill, it came with us.
Today, our larger production twisters have taken over that role, and rather than leave this machine sitting unused, we’ve given it the rebuild we felt it deserved before finding it a new home.
Although mechanically these are wonderfully simple and robust machines, we wanted this one to be something we’d be happy to buy ourselves.
The machine has therefore undergone a comprehensive rebuild, including:
Mechanically, the machine remains true to the original Calvani design. Ratios and gearing have not been altered; instead, the improvements focus on reliability, usability and control.
The result is a classic Italian ring twister with modern industrial controls.
The Calvani Jet 4/F is an exceptionally versatile sampling and small production machine.
It is equally at home producing a handful of cones for product development as it is twisting regular production batches. We’ve successfully used it across an unusually wide range of yarns, from very fine 2-ply yarns through to super chunky qualities.
The variable speed drive provides smooth acceleration, infinitely adjustable running speed and electronic braking, making it particularly well suited to delicate yarns where careful control is important.
Twist direction can be configured for either S or Z twist.
Like most good Italian machinery of its era, it is straightforward, robust and entirely serviceable. It was designed to work, and to keep working.

For customers in North America, we are happy to fit a transformer prior to shipment so the machine is ready to operate on the local electrical supply.

The creel will be dismantled for transport and can be reassembled with only a few bolts.
The machine is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition and can be demonstrated fully under power before purchase.
Collection is welcome from our mill in West Wales. We can load the machine at our end, or prepare it for domestic or international freight. Export crating and documentation can be arranged, with the machine fully secured for worldwide transport.
We also recognise that machines like this rarely come with ongoing support. We’re happy to answer questions, provide advice, assist with commissioning, or offer operator training if required.
