Every time we set up the mill - threading the gillbox, comb, or the spinning frame - a little fibre comes through first. It’s not wrong, it’s just not quite ready. Most of it goes back into the batch it came from. But some, we keep.
We gather it slowly: the early turns, the final ends, the Pneumafil fibre that would otherwise drift away. All of it is good quality organic, undyed, and worth saving.
When there’s enough, we card and gill it for a smooth, even blend, then spin and twist it with the same care as every other yarn we make. The result is Fallow: a small-batch yarn made entirely from organic reclaimed wool, spun here in West Wales.
Why we make Fallow
We’re a zero waste mill. Every part of the process is planned so nothing is lost, from selling our combing noil for toy stuffing to composting the smallest yarn trimmings. Fallow is another step in that same direction: making something good from what others might throw away.
