Undyed

Our iconic undyed yarns have been made organically for over 20 years. Available in Lace to Super Bulky, here you'll find sumptuously soft Shetland to hardy Hebridean.

Number 1 Lace

The delicate twist of a single ply of naturally coloured organic wool has made Number 1 staggeringly popular over the years.

Totally breed specific, we can trace each skein of yarn back to the flock that produced the wool.

We think this lace yarn is perfect for shawls, light sweaters and accessories - or hold it double to use alongside Number 2.

Snowdonia Sock

High twist, worsted spun Romney and Hebridean make up Snowdonia Sock. Designed from day one as a durable, straightforward base, we're able to achieve the stunning undyed gradient simply by mill-blending the buttery smooth tops.

Everything about Snowdonia Sock is deliberate: the fibre is chosen for it's strong, smooth characteristics, the twist has been carefully measured to keep the gorgeous integrity of these two breeds whilst achieving the necessary long-lasting ruggedness of a good, honest sock yarn.

Two ends of Number 1 are gently twisted together to form our 4ply/Sport weight yarn, Number 2.

We add a slightly looser twist than most to trap plenty of air in this lofty woollen spun marvel.

Totally undyed and fully certified organic.

Number 3 DK

Three ends of Number 1 are gently twisted together to form our DK undyed yarn, Number 3.

By using 3 plies, we get an exceptionally round and even yarn, perfect for cabling and other textured stitches.

Sourced from individual flocks of British breeds from organic farms around the UK.

Number 4 Aran

3 plump plies combine to produce our Aran yarn, Number 4.

Number 5 Bulky

Warm and cosy, Number 5 is the Chunky member of the Garthenor family.

An absolute dream for heavy sweaters, this yarn has wonderful stitch definition throughout, and works well for chunky cables and other textured stitches – though we’d steer clear of anything too fancy for Hedgehog, as this marled colourway excels at a plainer fabric like garter or stockinette.

Bulky

70-100 metres / 77-109 yards

100 grams / 3.53 ounces

Number 6 Super Bulky

Number 6 rounds off the Garthenor yarn family as its Super Chunky sister. Beautifully lofty and pillowy, these 100g skeins are a treat for quick knitters.

For garments, think warm, cosy sweaters and hats or heavy blankets.

Super Bulky

50-80 metres / 55-87 yards

Dyed

Carefully dyed to Global Organic Textile Standards to ensure no harsh chemicals are used.

Cairngorm Lace

Cairngorm was designed as a companion to Number 1, our ever-popular undyed lace.

To be able to match the specialty of Number 1, we needed to source some special fibre. Whilst developing our worsted-spun blends, we stumbled across this delicious Romney lambswool. Produced from the first clip at around 6-8 months old, these short, silky fibres are a treat for woollen spinning.

Preseli Fingering

To create the subtle, complex pair of bases that make up Preseli, they're mill-blended as tops before spinning. By blending this way, we're able to get a smooth, even top that keeps the deep grey blend, perfect for heathery tones once dyed.

A blend of Polwarth, Romney and Hebridean, Preseli is our softest yarn ever. In a palette of 36 gorgeous colourways, this one is a dream for colourwork.

Beacons DK

A good DK yarn needs purpose and structure, and Beacons has that in abundance. a smooth, soft and springy 3-ply yarn, this is a timeless favourite.

Our Polwarth comes from Dunbar Island, part of the Falkland Islands, famed for the snow white superfine fleece. These sheep produce a long, smooth fibre that has excellent stitch definition and soaks up dye like a sponge.

The Polwarth is lifted by some Romney, sourced from a flock in Wiltshire. We chose this lustrous longwool to add structure and some complexity to the blend.
