We’re currently transitioning from 50g to 100g skeins. During this period, your order may arrive as either one 100g skein or two 50g skeins.
Beacons was born from a simple idea: if Preseli was this soft in fingering weight, what if we spun it into something plumper? The result is a luxurious DK yarn that keeps all the depth and polish of the original - but with extra loft, softness, and bounce. It’s smooth, springy, and spun with the same fibres we fell in love with in Preseli: Polwarth for softness, Romney for structure and sheen, and Hebridean for depth and tone.
Beacons is worsted spun with a 3-ply structure, giving it crisp roundness and beautiful definition. It’s a joy to knit, gliding effortlessly across the needles while holding textures like cables, brioche and garter with poise. Some shades are dyed, some undyed, some marled - all subtly different in fibre content and tone, but unmistakably Beacons.
It hasn’t always been easy to make. Polwarth is an ultrafine fibre, and spinning it at this scale is a lesson in patience. But over time, the yarn has evolved - becoming softer, smoother, and more refined with every batch. Use it for sweaters and accessories that need both drape and structure, and expect that little moment of surprise when you give it a squish.
