If you’re in the US, you’ve probably already seen similar announcements from other businesses — and unfortunately, we’re in the same boat.

We wanted to share some important news for our friends and customers in the United States.

From 29 August, new import rules are being introduced that change how parcels are treated on arrival in the US. For years, there’s been a “low-value exemption,” which meant smaller parcels could arrive without customs duties. That exemption has now been removed. As a result, all parcels — no matter their value — will face the same tariffs as larger imports, depending on their country of origin.

This shift has created a bit of confusion worldwide. Postal services everywhere, including Royal Mail here in the UK, are taking a short pause while they adjust their systems. The goal is to make sure duties are calculated properly and that customers in the US don’t get stung with surprise fees when their package arrives.

To make things as clear and fair as possible, we’ve temporarily paused the ability for US customers to place orders through our website. This way, nobody is left waiting on a parcel that we can’t yet ship.

Behind the scenes, we’re not just waiting for news - we’re actively working with Royal Mail and our customs partner to set up a proper system that ensures duties are handled correctly. The aim is to avoid any hidden costs or unpleasant surprises when your yarn arrives.

The good news is that this pause should be brief. We expect US orders to resume within days, and we’ll be ready to ship the moment everything is in place.

In the meantime, if you’d like to get your hands on Garthenor yarn without waiting, we’re lucky to have some wonderful US stockists who carry our ranges. You can find them all on our Stockists page.Supporting these brilliant shops not only helps them, but also keeps your projects moving while we get shipping sorted.

We’re so grateful for your patience and support. Running an independent mill means we’re part of a global web of makers, and our US customers are a huge part of that story.

For the very latest updates, please sign up to our newsletter or follow us on Instagram. We’ll share the news there the moment US shipping is back up and running.
